GETTING UNCOMFORTABLE
There was a time in my life where I stuck to things that came easy to me and that were very comfortable. The problem with that is that it is easy to get into a rut. Not only that, but there is so much outside of our comfort zone that can really benefit us that we are missing out on. Now if I think about something and my mind says “I can’t”, I know I’m in trouble. I’m at a point now where I feel the need to look at that thing that I think I can’t do and tackle it head on.
The same is true for our health. We get comfortable in our routine of how we eat, how we exercise, how we get adjusted and wear our head weights and do our traction. Then something is recommended to us to improve our health and our mind immediately shifts to “I can’t do that”. A classic example is the Healing Diet – as soon as we recommend to people that they give up grains and sugars, most people immediately will come up with 1000 reasons why they could never do it. But what if you took the mentality that as soon as you said “I can’t do that”, you committed to yourself that you WOULD do it. Maybe for no other reason than to prove to yourself that you can. The magic is that if you do this a few times in a row, you start to see that you actually CAN do the things that you thought at first you could never pull off. Then, it starts to set in: There’s NOTHING you can’t do!
So it’s time for you to set some sort of ridiculous goal for yourself. Something you think you could never pull off. As a staff, we have committed to participating in a triathlon together in the middle of September. At first, this really scared me (and some of the girls). Please understand… I don’t know how to swim. I’ve never trained for anything like this in my life (every sport I’ve ever excelled at has been based on short sprints of energy followed by rest periods or lifting heavy things). I have a baby on the way in the middle of my training. My body is not built for endurance sports. There are 1000 other excuses that I could make as to why I could never pull this off. But forget about them. I will crush this, just to prove that I can.
Are you at a point in your life where you need some confidence in you ability to pull something big off? Do you think that completing a triathlon two months from now is out of the question? If so, why don’t you join us? Commit to training for this triathlon with us. Don’t worry if you don’t swim well or you don’t have a bike. That’s the point. It’s to identify excuses and find answers to them instead of letting them defeat you.
In my house, It’s Ok to say “I don’t want to” – but it’s never OK to say “I can’t”. In fact, if I hear anyone saying it, it is punishable with five burpees. There are no two words that rob you of power like “I can’t”. Never speak to yourself that way – you CAN! Whether it’s complete a triathlon, stick to the healing diet, and afford something in your life you don’t think you can… there’s always a way (if there is a will strong enough).
So we are seriously looking for people to join us in the triathlon. It’s not a long one… 500M swim, 10K bike, and 4K run. Did you just think to yourself “I can’t do that”? If so, sign up at the front desk RIGHT NOW to prove yourself wrong. Don’t worry about being slow… I’ll be right there with you. But I won’t let you fail.
